Leoben Weekend
IAESTE Leoben wants to invite you to the Summer Reception Weekend 2010. It will take place in the beautiful town of Leoben in central Austria from Saturday, 17th to Sunday 18th of July.
Saturday: First meeting point: 11:30 at Leoben railway station or 12:00 at Bruck/Mur railway station Then we go to Mixnitz-Bärenschützklamm together by train (you can use your ÖBB summer ticket), where you get a small lunch. From there we will walk into the beautiful Bärenschützklamm, a narrow gorge made by the small river Mixnitzbach. There are wodden stairs and ladders in the whole gorge. After about 2 hours we arrive at the cottage "Guter Hirt" where we can stay for a coffee. Then we will walk back to the railway station and take a train back to Leoben. Here we will first have a short walk through the town, then want to have dinner together and later go to some bar in town, before going to bed.
Sunday: We will leave to Eisenerz at about 10:00, where we will visit the Erzberg, which is the largest siderite-source in the world (siderite is an iron-ore, FeCO3). We will first drive around on the mountain with one of the 860PS strong Haulys, as they call them, and see some surface mining. Later we'll go inside the mountain to see some underground mining. Maybe we still have time for a little stroll to the medival centre of Eisenerz, before going back to Leoben at around 15:00. After that you can go home or make another little tour through Leoben.
